Keep Your Blog Updated!

One of the main secrets to successful blog traffic is to keep it regularly updated!  If you want your readers to keep coming back for more, they need a reason!

In addition, the search engines like fresh content.  So, if you want to be at the top of the search results and keep your blog traffic high, keep your blog updated!

Here are a few reasons why:

  • Repeat traffic to your blog.  People who have read your blog in the past in the past will come back and read it again if they know it has been updated and your content is important to them. If you wrote about content that interested them the first time, they will come back if they know you will keep your blog updated!
  • Increased blog traffic.  As I mentioned before, search engines recognize when a blog has been updated. They will push those older blog pages back up the search rankings for your keywords if they know you are updating your blog.
  • Increased time spent on your blog.  Providing new information will entice people to spend more time reading the posts on your blog.
  • A second opportunity to connect with current and future customers.  Anytime you spend time updating your blog and posting new content, you should share it with your social networks. This provides another opportunity for you to get your business name in front of your clients and/or future clients and that is never a bad thing!
Make sure you are posting material your readers care about.  Monitor your blog's analytics and sharing plug-ins and see what people are reading and sharing and what interests them.  Focus on content that will keep your readers coming back and your traffic rates up.  Also, make sure you are using rich keywords in your posts to keep the search engines happy.
  • Keeping an eye on your top performing content will tell you which topics you should be updating and writing about again.  It will also allow you to keep an eye out for any new information that might come up for that specific topic to blog about.
  • Link from your blog to your website and vice-versa.  Internal linking is great for SEO, especially since you have control to update your own content.
  • Keep your updates short and full of great information. You don’t have to add a thousand words to existing website or blog content to keep your readers or the search engines happy. You simply want to add new quality information and then move on.
  • Promote updated content through ALL your social media channels and get an extra boost for your efforts!
